Hospitals and GP practices - Pausing elective care 4th Jan

Patient Notice:

In line with guidance, we are working on plans to offer:

•         a booster dose to everyone aged 18 years old and over

•         a booster dose to people aged 16 years old and over with a severely weakened immune system

•         booster doses from 3 months after the previous dose - currently it's from 6 months after the previous dose

•         a 2nd dose to all children aged 12 to 15 years old who are not already eligible 

Please note these offers are not yet available. Arrangements are being put in place to get underway as quickly as possible.

The booster vaccine offer will be opened up by age group to ensure the most vulnerable are vaccinated firstThe national booking service will initially open up to people in their 40s and older people who would previously have had to wait six months before moving onto younger age groups.

If you need urgent medical advice for something which isn’t life threatening, please visit or call 111 before going to A&E to ensure you get the right help. If you need to go to hospital you may be given a booked time slot which will shorten how long you have to wait. This will help to keep you, your family and friends safe during the pandemic.

COVID-19 vaccination update

Please do not contact the practice to ask for a COVID-19 vaccination. You will be contacted when you are eligible.

To make sure everyone gets the vaccine in a safe and controlled way, a prioritisation list has been established so the vaccine can be given to those who need it first.

We will contact you when you are eligible to receive the vaccine and provide you with information about location and date, so please don’t contact the practice to ask for a vaccine before then. 

We are aware that some people are receiving suspicious calls and text messages offering the COVID-19 vaccination. 

To protect yourself and your family members from fraud and criminals, remember the following points. 

  • The vaccine is only available on the NHS for free to people in priority groups, and the NHS will contact you when it is your turn. Anyone offering a paid-for vaccine is committing a crime. 
  • The NHS will never ask you to press a button on your keypad or send a text to confirm you want the vaccine, and never ask for payment or for your bank details.
  • At the moment we are also not making house calls to deliver or discuss the vaccine. Anyone offering this now is committing a crime. 

If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up. If you believe you have been the victim of fraud or identity theft you should report this directly to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Where the victim is vulnerable, and particularly if you are worried that someone has or might come to your house, report it to the Police online or by calling 101. 

There have also been reports of patients who have been invited by text message not trusting that the message is legitimate. If you receive a text message from your practice it should start with 

This is a message for [name], date of birth [DOB], from [organisation name]. 

We are working hard to plan the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations, while continuing to vaccinate people against flu and support our patients with routine and urgent health requests. On that basis, we are unable to answer additional questions about the COVID vaccine.

However, to help answer your likely questions, we have tried to summarise the key information you need to know about the upcoming COVID-19 vaccination campaign, along with sharing details of the way patient groups will be prioritised:

  • The vaccine will be given in order of priority to those at highest risk first.
  • We will be in contact with you with information about where and when you will need to receive the vaccine.
  • Please act on your invite when it comes, and make sure you attend your appointments when you arrange them.
  • Please continue to follow all social distancing and hand hygiene guidance, which will still save lives.


What are the priority groups?

  1. residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  2. all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
  3. all those 75 years of age and over
  4. all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals (excluding pregnant women and those under 16)
  5. all those 65 years of age and over
  6. all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
  7. all those 60 years of age and over
  8. all those 55 years of age and over
  9. all those 50 years of age and over
  10. rest of the population (priority to be determined)

The doctors and staff at Mount Road Surgery are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare (see the patient survey and QoF results). The nurses manage minor illness, childhood and adult immunisation, also chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes. The Surgery offers a wide variety of other services including contraception, maternity care, minor surgery (cautery of skin lesions), and screening for example cholesterol and BP checks and cervical smears.  We are a single storey building with disabled access.  All doors are wide enough to accommodate standard wheelchairs.
